Compliment Invalidated?

While at church a few weeks ago, the lady in the pew in front of me complimented me on my singing. She recommended that I join the worship team upfront.

She mentioned that she was tone-deaf and that she could never sing upfront with the worship team or with the choir.

Still a compliment?

Funny you should mention this, because I have pondered something similar. In 25 years or so of attending services, I've been complimented on my singing maybe 3 times. After much reflection, I have concluded that what they really meant was, "You sung loudly or otherwise distinctly, but it wasn't bad, per se."

Knowing your background in the highly reputed Glen Ellen Boys Choir I'm sure that the compliment was well deserved.
